Your Itinerary

I will meet you at the Base du Cros campsite for the first days coaching.

Directions: From BALAZUC, head down through RUOMS and follow the signs to VALLON PONT DARC (15 mins). As you enter Vallon you will pass a Lidl supermarket on your left and a football stadium on your right. Take the first exit at this roundabout (around the football stadium) and continue to the next roundabout. Here, take the first exit towards SALAVAS and cross the bridge over the Ardeche river. Go through the village and as you exit you will start to climb a hill – take the first turning on your LEFT towards Base du Cros. Follow this road up and over, as you come back down the road splits – bear right and you will find the entrance to Base du Cros on your left (just after the ‘Piquelet’ and ‘Clapas’ campsites).

Please select a day below for more information:

Monday 25 April - private coaching

10 am meet at Base du Cros – We will spend the whole day on the water around the same location

Introductions, provision of kit, assessment of current abilities
Lunch by the river
We will focus on boat set up and then flat water skills for most of the day (looking at J-strokes, stern rudders, bow cuts, draw strokes etc)
We will do solo and tandem work throughout the day
If appropriate, we will also begin to use the skills in a moving water environment.

We will aim to finish the day around 5pm

Tuesday 26 April - private coaching

10 am meet at Base du Cros – We will spend the whole day on the water around the same location

Re-cap on previous days learning
River reading skills, safety awareness, rescues
Lunch by the river
Development of skills in moving water environment
We may do a small journey on this day if appropriate

We will aim to finish the day around 5pm

Wednesday 27 April - Recovery day

This is your ‘recovery day’ so that you are fully charged for the two-day river trip

Enjoy 🙂

Thursday 28 April - Two day descent of Ardeche river (day 1)

10 am meet at Base du Cros

After loading up the boats we will head off for our two day trip through the Gorges de l’Ardeche
We will develop all previously covered skills throughout the journey, stopping in suitable places to work on specific things.

We will have lunch by the river and will plan to reach the bivouac site by about 5pm (or later if we are having fun on the river)

We will then settle in at the bivouac site and enjoy a nice BBQ and (hopefully) a clear starry sky.

Friday 29 April - Two day descent of Ardeche river (day 2)

We will meet for coffee at 9am and will aim to be back on the river around 10am

We will spend the whole day continuing our journey through the Ardeche gorge giving you more opportunities to hone your open canoe skills
We should be pretty much on our own for this day so it should give you the great experience of being alone in the gorge

We will aim to finish the river between 4-5pm (depending on final transport option)

Hopefully by the end of the four days you will both be much more proficient in an open canoe and fully prepared for your adventure in Canada 🙂
